Heavy Overcast Skies + Outdoor Engagement Photos - 04-30-2010, 07:04 PM

So I come asking for help. A friend asked me to shoot their engagement photos this weekend and well, tomorrow's forecast is looking gloomy with heavy overcast skies and possible thunderstorms.

I'd rather reschedule than to waste their time, the only catch is that they're on a tight schedule for the next couple of weeks, so this weekend is basically the only time they have avail.

Do you have any suggestions?

Gear:
SB900
2 Pocket Wizards
50 1.4
70-200
24-70 needed?
Silver and white reflector

I also expect tomorrow to be windy as it was today and shooting by myself.

Thanks in advance.

FYI, one suggestion is to have them reschedule, which I would rather do than to have gloomy images.

the wind may be a problem, but the skies tomorrow could provide some great dramatic images.... let me find you an example for you....

and of course I can't find what I am looking for...

Try this...Underexpose the sky a stop / stop and a half. Set white balance to flourescent and gel SB's with warming gel to turn the skin back. Really dramatic skies.

Stormy Photo shoot - Canon Digital Photography Forums

You could really make some unique images with those skies. If it turns out to be just overcast, it'll be awesome as well. Just shoot wide open and work that giant softbox overhead!

I love shooting on overcast days cause then you don't have to hassle with harsh sunlight. Take advantage!!
