Shooting through glass - 12-04-2005, 03:31 PM

Whats a good way to shoot through glass? Yesterday I had a chance to go to Tyler zoo to try out my new Sigma. Most of the cats were close to the glass but there was always a glare on the glass that would show up in the photo. On a few shots I was able to get my wife and kids to stand in certain spots to block the glare but in a lot of cases it was impossible. On a few shots it was dark enough that without the flash the photo could not be seen. Of course with the flash the glass just pops right out, is this kind of shot impossible.

If you have a wide enough lens it sometime helps to put your lens up against the glass.

I was using a 70-200 all day, the only one I even took with me. I stopped by Karls Camera in Tyler before going to the zoo to buy a UV filter for the lens but guess I should have went ahead and bought a circle polirizer also. I'll have to try that next time. Also going to take a couple of other lenes next time too. Thnaks for the help.

Ditto...That's exactly wt it was made for and when you get it, get a good quality glass so you will retain your color and sharpness

By good quality glass you mean filtermanufacturer? Hoya is all I used way, way back when I used 35mm. I noticed the other day that there are a lot of new manufacturers that I have never heard of. I plan on sticking with Hoya or tiffen as long as I can. Has anyone tried the promaster brand? I'm sure one of the big names is producing it and just selling under another name but I've never used any of their filters only their straps and such.

Hey John,

If you want a good Polarizer, I would take a look at B&W or Heliopan. Little more expensive, but they are the best IMHO....
