Back on topic: Pick up a few high end interior design/decorating magazines to see what interiors should look like. Practice.
Then practice more. Shoot your interiors.

Remember to consider the color temperature of all the lights the camera will see. Tungsten bulbs, Daylight, Flash, CFL's... each will affect the exposure/mood of the image.

It can be tricky if you find yourself mixing tungsten with fluorescent with window light, so keep that in mind as well. I'm in the same boat - supposed to be shooting some real estate soon for a realtor I met recently. I guess it's time to practice in my own house. Why don't you start there?
