Question Printing Question - 12-16-2005, 08:22 AM

Ok...so I havent sent any pictures out to be printed. I have zero exerience printing.

Last night as a favor to a business client, I took pictures of residents at a retirement home. I am simply giving them a disk that they will take to be printed (somehwere). I know several threads have involved calibrating their monitors, etc... with their preferred printing place.

In general whats the safest way I can color correct, profile, or whatever to ensure these pictures will at least be acceptable in color in the final print. I worry because my monitor isnt calibrated. I also know this is not how I would want to deal with a "real" shoot. This was just a last minute "can you help us out" kind of thing.

I have the color profile set to sRGB and the files are now JPEG.

Any help in sending them a disk with images that will be close to color correct as possible will be helful. Thansk in advance for any advice!

there are several web sites to help you adjust your monitor to make sure its fairly accurate with out having to get a monitor callibration tool.

here are just a few

http://epaperpress.com/monitorcal/

http://www.easyrgb.com/calibrate.php

with out knowing which printer will be used its gonna be hard to accurately ensure they are color correctd properly. Some places have an ICC profile for their printer you can use to get the images to match the print. but since you dont know which printer they will use Best you can do is make sure they look very close on your monitor and then send them away.

you didnt say what size the photos. If they are just printing 4x6 photos then you can do a simple test by putting 3 or 4 on a cd and get them printed at echards or wherever is close to verify the quality. this wil only cost you a couple bucks and you can tell them how to get them printed for about .30 each. most of these places color correct etc when printing anyway.

If you are talking about large prints, I am no help to you. I print all my own on an epson 2200 or have a friend print larger ones on a 4800(?). I dont find that I need a corrected monitor but do have to go thru setup runs in the beginning to get all settings right. However, I am sure I am not getting exactly correct colors and plan on trying a calabritation system next year.

yeah, I called Walgreens and CVS before I dropped of the CD to check on a few things. most will be 4 x 6. So like you said not a big deal. There are one or two they mentioned they might want larger in whcih case I told them I would tweak it a bit...its all good, they were very happy.
