Need help with shooting mirrors - 02-27-2011, 10:17 AM

I am having a devil of a time trying to light and photograph some mirrors to feature in an online catalog. They have to be shot on a pure white background and I am shooting with 4 lights, 2 to light the background and 2 in soft boxes to light the items. But, these mirrors are too large to put in a light box to bounce the light around them (at least one I'm familiar with). I'm really struggling with how to shoot them without catching the reflection of something (a light, a softbox, me, the ceiling if I angle them a bit) in the mirror. How do you pros light these things?

Any suggestions appreciated.

Build a frame large enough for your frame to fit out of PVC then drop a sheet or white back drop over it place you lights on the outside just like you do with the little light box.

Assuming you don't have a large format camera where the tilt/shift will fix this problem, you can angle the mirror so that the reflected image is of a sheet, towel, something, that is big enough to fill the reflected image. Hope this makes sense.
