How to achieve this look - 03-10-2011, 02:28 PM

amateur here still learning....

that being said, wife wants me to take some pics of the kids and she found this "look" she likes on a photographers website (a good friend of ours use this lady). Anyway, wife wants some of the kids with this sunny glare look and Im not really sure how its done. Would I want or need any filters? or is this post processing work?

btw, hope im not breaking any rules by displaying these photos since they arent mine, but figure might be okay since they are watermarked.

It is just sun flare on the lens. Easy to do. Just point the camera towards the sun a little. To me it is not a good photography, unless you like the look.

Yeah, this is almost pointing into the sun, you should be able to see the glare while looking through your viewfinder. Wider lenses will generally flare more than a telephoto.

+2 on the lens flare

also, I would guess on the second shot a reflector at camera feet (maybe camera left) ... wild guess gold color

Like what everyone else said, just point at the sun. It's a neat look.

Sorry my example is a link to a website, but I'm on my phone and don't have the photo in my camera roll.

Anyway I got the flare from the sun, and used a gelled flash camera right to light her up.

Have fun and experiment

Unfortunately, it's not as easy as just pointing into the sun - the photographer uses one or more filters in post processing. There are a NUMBER of ways to get that look, but it's not always easy - you'll have to screw with the color curves and some other things a bit.

True, I looked past the fact that there was post involved as well.
