That is a huge print.

Think you got enough output for it?

What will the viewing distance be?

Best advice is to ask the printer what he thinks.

Check out Onone Software's Genuine Fractals (now Perfect Resize 7), they have tutorials on its use. it should be just what you need to enlarge your project

Ask your lab.

I saw a print done with aD200 of a bride at that about size. Get it right in the camera with the exposure done right, and use a quality lab. (What I saw was a canvas mounted on melanine, lab was Pounds).

How far away will it be be to the eye? Billboards used to require only a 1M pickel image. Might be different these days, but really. If you want rock solid large prints, talk to your lab. 200 dpi printers and 72 inches by 44* (a 1:6363 ratio seems kinda odd)* means a camera with a MegaPickle of (200x72)x(200X48*)=138240000 pickels, or 13.8M. But that is looking at it from up close. If it is across the room and mounted above the viewer...it may not matter at all.

*(6:4 ratio is what is on most cameras, so a 72x48 would be more likely)

But your lab can tell you quickly if they can print at that DPI or not on that size...or if they can upscale it without you buying some additional software that they will override anyway.

A 35 to my eye and a 45 by my side.
What say you?

Sorry I was a bit rushed lastnight when I responded. I have made posters that size before (only a couple) but with very good results using the OnOne Perfect Resize product. The product is not overly expensive and gives you tremendous freedom in printing and sizing options (including auto borders for canvas wraps).

Quoting the OnOne website
Enlarging Images

Perfect Resize 7 - The next generation of Genuine Fractals is still the industry standard for image enlargement. Resize your images 200%, 400%, 800% or more without the loss of quality you get with other resizing methods. Perfect Resize works with Photoshop, Lightroom, and Aperture or as a standalone application.

I have used this product and it works well, their website is Perfect Resize 7 - onOne Software and they do have free trials.

Best of luck

most large format printers are 44" and will print on a pretty wide variety of materials (canvas, matte, gloss, vinyl, etc)... check with your local large format printers, sign companies have plotters that big. I use sign companies for printing all my massive posters, vehicle wraps, billboards, etc. quality is usually impeccable.

Smile Thanks for the great replies - 03-18-2011, 03:48 PM

Thanks everyone for the great replies. I should have given more info. The customer wants to fill a niche in a new home with the print which will be in the living room. I can only go 44 in wide and the customer wants no less than 72 in high. 4 people in the photo. I am shooting with a Canon 7d in raw mode. I like Houston Canvas to do the canvas print and frame included. Thanks again.
