Bibble crashes on D200 images - 12-27-2005, 10:03 PM

At least it does on my iMac.

I downloaded the 4.5 version to see if I could get a better workflow going than I've been able to while using Nikon Capture. I tried setting it up for my ACR base settings like ProPhoto color space, 16 bit depth, etc. Initially I liked the fill light feature and the highlight recovery slider. The white balance seems a little wacky, but every time I got something that I thought was working, the damn application would crash! I swear I tried for over an hour to get the darn thing to stay working. I managed to save out one tif during that time. Not a likely candidate if this is how it works!

Is anyone else using Bibble 4.5 on the Mac platform? Had any better luck? It seems to be the only alternative to Nikon Capture at the moment.

Slight update. Found a newer version with a supposed patch. Will try again in a while (after the 41MB download).

Well...IMHO...if you try using the Bible after shooting some glamour it is not going to work for you, the Bible is only to be use before so you won't have to repent latter

The update seemed to fix the issue. Funny that they released 4.5 on 12/23 then went on vacation. They posted a link to 4.5a in the message boards but failed to update the main link. It crashed only on single processor Macintosh machines when using the fill light slider. They need to work on the D200 white balance, since images I shot at 6700K in camera come into Bibble at 10,000K+ seems to me they aren't quite decrypting the value correctly. Perhaps they don't have the Nikon SDK or haven't updated it yet. One of the founders has a D200 himself, so I expect support to get better. Squeaky wheel always gets the grease

Got it going... Comparo? - 12-28-2005, 07:53 PM

After fiddling with bibble for a while I think I'm getting the hang of it. My next task is to try and bulk process a set that was shot in the same light with common settings. I need this function to generate web proofs for the models to see before I go back and tweak their choices individually. I have a real good solution with Bridge, ACR and actions. FYI you can see my different attempts in small and full size here:

I think this one is the closest to the output I want (still not as good as ACR):
