Nikon Capture, What would I gain - 12-29-2005, 09:32 AM

Currently I use Photoshop Elements 4 to process my raw shots using a D70. I am pleased with the results but have been reading that the most current version of Nikon Capture does a better job and when you close out of Capture the photo also goes directly to elements for anything further you want to do.
Is Capture that much better the PSE for processing raw
Will it really close directly into PSE
How hard is it to use
Will Capture allow me to get a little more punch into pictures where I want vivid colors
Thanks

If you want more punch and better colors, then I suggest you calibrate your camera/lens combinations with the ACR calibration script by Thomas Fors. Search the forum here for ACR calibration and you'll find some great posts by Jeff Kohn. I know that my work is spot on when it comes to colors on the D70. I've been using Capture a bit with my new D200 and personally I prefer ACR and Photoshop. I'm also trying Bibble, and it has some nice features, but I keep coming back to ACR for the best results doing portraits. NC tends to create a more contrast rich image, but you can do that in photoshop with a contrast/brightness adustment of (+3,-3). You'll find that Capture is slower and in my opinion you'd be better off saving the $169 and putting it towards an upgrade to full Photoshop.

PM me if you want to try my numbers on the calibrate tab for the D70 if you don't own a GMB color checker card.
