How did they make this look like this? - 12-30-2005, 04:28 AM

Hello guys and girls,

I have been walking around for a long time now, questioning how they made such pictures, how do they get the colors like this?

I've tried searching google, tried for myself in PS and tried searching on this forum, but I couldn't find it anywhere.

Is this done with a certain action, curves or something else? I know it was mostly good light in a studio, but this has to be manipulated in the digital darkroom. Can anyone help me to achieve such a picture in such colors?

Thank you all in advance!

Frank

I don't see anything special about the colors in this image. In fact the skin tones look rather pinkish and washed out to me. Looking at the catchlights makes me think it was lit from low camera right with fill high camera left. There is no modeling to his face or hands which indicates very flat lighting.

Kind of boring if you ask me, but then again a lot of commercial product images are that way.

What is it about this photo that captures your attention?

Uh... I dont see any technique in the image...actually I get this result when I use flash directly on the camera and I am too close. It gives me a dull flat image with horrible skin tones.

I too would like to know what it is specifically you like in the image....

yes yes and yes....

there are tons of actions on the Adobe Studio site that you can download for free that do this. Also, as mentioned by another forum member, it could just the lighting...

nothing major on this pic. Good DOF and increased Contrast.. I don't see any special colors or effects.

If you mean how it's focused on the camera, hands and his face is in the bokah range, I would think it's manually focused. Ditto what Scott said about the flat lighting, and odd pink colour.

I like the commercial look of it, it's hard to explain. I just need to know how it is done...
