Actor Headshots for the Dallas market - 05-01-2011, 01:40 PM

I was asked to do an actor headshot for a prospective actor who will be using it in the Dallas area.

The situation is that he is not represented by an agent and will be using the headshot for attempting to gain representation. So there are no specific requirements by an agent.

I was wondering if I could get some idea of what it popular in the Dallas market, as I know it differs from market to market and I want to give him something useful so he has the best opportunity.

Any suggestions/help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Todd

Its an extremely conservative market.. and agents here want something that is conservative, natural, and usually outdoors (well, they say outdoors, but really what they are asking for is flat lighting). Portrait "rules" are out the window... they want something that is flat lit, with very few shadows on the face... don't crop too tight, either.

The only exception to this I've found in Dallas is Klutts .. but its rare that a new actor will get in with them anyway.

Awesome! Thanks for the reply.

I was going to shoot with 8x10 in mind but was going to fill the that frame. I'll open it up a little more. So outdoors with natural light but no shadows. lol Sounds like a balancing act. Should be fun.

Thank you!
Todd

Are they looking for an agent or are attempting to get a specific role in something?

I shot some for a good friend that is a big casting director, when her main guy is too busy and the biggest complaint she will talk about it, too much post processing done to the images. Which is the feedback she hears after the casting calls. I'll usually have them do a few different looks so it covers different roles they are going for. It doesn't have to be outside but it seems most are due to convenience, myself included.

hope this isn't to late to help
