I know people says equipment don't matter' but I would still like to list them out just in case they are needed later Dow. The road

Canon 7D
24-70 f2.8
50 1.4
11-16 f2.8

Manfrotto 561BHDV (seriously thinking about purchasing)

So, here is the thing, my friend has asked me to help out on filming the firefly run that's happening at the beginning of June. The event is going to be night time around shop at legacy area, it's basically going to be a night time 5k and 10k run with neon wrist straps and decorations (think Tron).

My friend wants something that's sort of like a compilation which consists of what happened in the race, why they join the race, what makes this race so special for them? ( or at least along these lines) and the other video would be more of interviews with the runner or sponsors, which I am thinking as of right now ask the people who have participated in the previous year what makes them come back, and perhaps some of the questions above. The who, what, when, where why questions

I guess my real question would be if you guys were to shoot this ( which by the way we are still looking for volunteer to help out on the video, pm me for more detail if you are interested) how would you approach, any tips and or tricks on what I should do, what I should ask? And what other equipments would I possibly need? Thought about slider or shoulder rig, but there is only going to be one of me, slider? 70-200 f2.8 IS lens?

Ideas? Suggestions? Anything and everything is welcome!

-Yiow

Thanks!!

While I"ve run in night time events like this but I'[ve never photo'd them. I can remember one section where the event photog just had simple strobes set up on each side to get the night pic's.

The big difference is they were more of a trail run with no other lights out there except the moonlight and whatever lights the runners brought. many would usually have a head band type like. along the lines of what a underground minor would wear. and/or a small flash light. I'm not sure how the light runners were wearing effect the pics exposure.

I'm thinking in that area there should be a decent amount of light up to a certain hour. Will you be able to scout out the course before then.
Heck I need a good 10k I just might run it.

If you want to do it cheaply, use a monopod for stabilization. Also, be sure to get a decent external recorder with shotgun mic and a lav mic. The audio from the 7D is horrible because of the AGC.

Greg, I do want to order that Manfrotto 561BHDV that everybody's been recommending, have H1 recorder with MicroSD card, not quite sure when I should put shotgun on the H1 vs on 7D, don't I still need somewhat decent audio from 7D in order to sync them up later in post?

@ Gary, come on join the fun!!! From what my friend told me, there are going to be TONS of people, think 3000 +, and there will be surprises for the race as well (in a good way)

Curious, one can do a video or sequence of stills and make a flip book.
Has anyone here ever done that?

Inquiring mind wants to know.

Not trying to do a thread jack here. I live close to this race route. For those of the photography mindset getting to Plano early, starting one block below Tennyson/Parkwood and continuing south on Parkwood to Parker there several fields gold ripened wheat waiting for combines. These are wheat fields easily accessible curbside or walk-up.

Other fields along 121 close to Hwy75 have already been harvested. Who knows some with a camera in hand may get lucky and photograph a wheat harvest.

Yes, I do have a high drift rate during my senior moments.

The posted link is to the website lightstalking.com*

Those are not my shots. Surfed into the lightstalking *site from a link on the Photography page of*alltop.com , a most excellent aggregator site.

With the impending race in the Tennyson/Parkwood of Plano I posted just to give folks a heads up of the potential in that part of town is. The link was simply to show some wheat photos. Agility will help since the local wheat is about 18 inches tall.
