Elements 3 vrs Elements 4,Photoshop 7 - 01-02-2006, 04:54 PM

Is there anyone out there that has had Photoshop Elements 3, and now has Photoshop Elements 4? If so what is the differance? What does 4 offer that 3 don't?

I have Elements 3 and don't know if I should up grade to 4 or wait till the next one comes out after 4......

Another Question::
Does anyone out there have and use Photoshop 7?
If so what can it do that Elements 3 can not?

I have it but I have not installed it on my computer just yet.

Thanks
Beckie

If you have PS 7, then I highly suggest you just upgrade it to CS2 for $150. You'll spend less and have so much more power with actions, adjustment layers, and masks alone. Camera RAW works in both Elements and full, but if you have a valid license for 7 then I highly recommend the upgrade. I went from Elements 3 directly to CS then CS2 via the upgrade route.

PS7 will give you a great deal of extra processing latitude than Elements, but like Scott said, the thing to do would be to upgrade to CS2. However, your Dimage may not do raw so the CS2 Raw processing may not be needed. I would install 7 and play around in it, then if you like it better than Elements, then consider upgrading.

Definately should install your Photoshop 7. It has way more features than elements. It will be a bit confusing at first but just play around with it. I have been using Photoshop for over 10 years and I still learn techniques.

Think of it like this. Elements is used for the average joe consumer. Photoshop is for the serious image pro who needs a large range of tools for image processing. Its much like a point and shoot camera vs a high quality SLR... they can both get the image but which one has more range and can take better images.

I have Elements 3 and get by with it OK, thanks especially to the person who created a layer mask tool that I can use with it. I haven't used 4 yet. I'm sure it would be great to upgrade to that or full PS but I don't have any money for that right now. It takes me longer to do things, though. I have no automation.
