A Must Have.... Mini Tripod - 04-02-2007, 11:46 AM

When I used to shoot with my small Point and Shoot an inexpensive $10 tabletop tripod came in very handy for long exposure type photos. These you can throw in your small gear bag without much effort or sacrifice in space.

Now that I own a much heavier Canon 1D Mark IIN I needed to upgrade to a more sturdy table top tripod.

Bogen/Manfrotto 3007 Mini Tripod w/ 482 Mini Ball Head.

It runs about $49 but it is VERY stable for my hefty dslr!

The foot print covers a lot of area keeping the CG nice nice and low.. as opposed to my $10 cheapy that didnt have much spread and always felt like the setup was gonna tip over.

Able -

How well does the little ball head work? My girlfriend is looking for a ball head and this one looks interesting. Does it have any tension adjustment?

Thanks,

Scott

the little ballhead works pretty well actually...

once you screw it on the tripod and unlock the lever, the ballhead rotates freely around the tripod and the top mounting plate can be place at any angle.

all in all i think it works really well...

Eeek, I don't know if I would great use of these but maybe it could be one of my best investments.. Considering, bringing my Induro A114 tripod would be quite tiring.

Havn't tried this table top version yet, but I have a ball head from SLIK and just love it... Great little thing way way better then anything else I have used. Use to adjust and locks exactly where you want it.

I found a tabletop tripod on eBay and love it. It was only $15. Okay, maybe not the slickest, highest quality around, but it's far above some of the cheapos - which I've seen - some of them are crapola! Lots of bang for the buck with this one.

It's called a WF Mini Tripod (W012), comes in a cool little black bag, has easily adjustable rubber tipped legs with the little snap tabs, a bubble level, and is adjustable in many ways. It has a center leg with a little suction doodad on it. It looks exactly like a big non-ball tripod, but it's tiny. It works like a charm.

fwiw!
