How would I be able to acheive this using photoshop instead?

There's so much to learn about Photoshop, it would take a life time!

HDR - 07-01-2009, 03:48 PM

The publishers of Digital Camera put out a "Complete Guide to Landscape Photography" in which they have a 6 step process for creating HDR images in Photoshop. I've used it and it's pretty effective. Digital Camera is a British publication but if you got o their website www.futurenet.co.uk you might still be able to order a copy.

For all you HDR aficionados, (I tend to shoot most all of my landscapes in HDR) the latest issue of Photoshop User magazine (July/Aug issue) hit my mailbox yesterday and has a huge tutorial on HDR using Photomatix and CS4 by Matt Kloskowski. If you are a NAPP member, you can also view the video tutorial on their web site. You can usually find Photoshop User in bookstores.

At least now I know why the 40D has the bracketing feature. This is my reference book. I don't know if I should go this route though, HDR is a whole new world.

The Nikon D50 has a bracketing feature also.

Excellent tutorial, and, more importantly, excellent results. I have almost given up on HDR, seeing all the psychedelic glowing aura HDRs out there. I knew what was possible, but seeing so little. You tutorials have inspired me to give it another shot.

Kevin, It's not like deciding whether to ditch film and try this new "digital" stuff. It is just a way to get more dynamic range of exposure into your shot. And for me, I use it very selectively. Let's chat on this. I'd be happy to process some for you through Photomatix and let you see the difference.
Cheers,
Rog

Roger,
Thanks!
I have pretty much ditched film as I could only get close as to getting the exposure right and depending on where I processed the rolls (Wolf/Ritz) it came out so-so.
I will still shoot with film but only with a Yashica T4 that I have and possibly some older cameras I have. The Canon A1 and assorted lenses now sit fairly motionless.
If I get up on the local hills or mountains I will take some of those bracketed shots and see if anything is worthy.

Just another example of how HDR can really bring out the detail and depth of an image
