Question Color Noise - 06-23-2007, 10:05 PM

Ok, so in quite a few of my photos I have recently noticed, that the blues are really noisy, grainy, etc. Particularly the sky, anything that should look rich and smooth, doesn't. How do I fix it? I have tried everything I can think of. Only to find, during my editing those mentioned areas are very unclear. Any tips will be helpful.

Digitals have a difficult time with large amounts of solid color. What camera/lens are you using?

...Was that the primary buffer panel?

Care to post an example with exif? It could be many things, one thing that comes to mind is jpg compression, the harder you compress the more artifacts you will see in places like a sky. Do you see this problem directly out of camera? If so Jerome's post about noise reduction will help.

I photograph jewelry and 3 dimensional art work and found the following programs extremely useful in my work:

DxO Optics Pro
Imagenomic Noiseware

Optics Pro corrects image sensor and lens errors including noise, and has become an indispensable tool. I highly recommend this as an addition to Photoshop. Next to my tripod and remote release it has become one of my most important tools.
