what camera are you using? what settings are you using?

typically with an IR filter you have to use very slow shutter speeds in the range of several seconds which can cause a lot of motion blur etc if there is wind blowing, long grass, trees etc.

Cheryl, what Sigma lens is it that is doing this?

A Vignette is when the outer corners of the image have a slightly darker (or lighter) tone to them.

I think what your seeing is a "hotspot" in the center of your images. According to THIS LIST there are several Sigma lenses that do produce a "hotspot" so be sure to see if the one you are using is included in there.

The definition of a "hotspot" per the link above is:
The hot spot is a a result of internal reflections within the lens produced by the lens' coatings. Some types of coating are not transparent to near-infrared wavelengths.Hope this helps.

You are right it is a hot spot, I saw a web page that refered to it as a vignette, I didn't think that was right, a few of my Canon and sigma lenses are on the list. Thanks for the great help !! I love this forum!!!

On a bright outdoors scene, using a D200,Hoya IR filter, I get good results @1:5.6,ISO 400, @8 to 10 seconds. With the camera tripod mounted, you need to focus without the filter, and carefully add the filter to shoot. I have an Infrared gallery on my web-martinfieldsphotography.com. Most of these where shot with a converted Nikon.Hope this is of some help. Marty

Abel: I like your first attempt with your converted camera. I feel it would be a stronger image if you cropped of some of the foreground, and darkened it.The brightness draws attention from your main subject. Marty
