Zoom explosion - 04-29-2008, 06:58 AM


Have you ever heard about a "zoom explosion"? You zoom a zoom lens from its shortest to longest focal lenght (or vice versa) at an 2 or 3 second exposure and you get a result like this one:



Just thought to share this tip with you one here, cause I think its a pretty cool effect without using photoshop...just the photographer, the camera and the subject. :)

Yep, heard of it. We use it often for nightlife photography.

Joe - yours is great!


Here are a couple I did of a neon sign in Davis, CA.

This one I moved the lens in one movement.



For this one I moved lens in increments.

I do like playing with this technique. Here's a few more taken at a botanical garden in Berkeley. It was a little harder in the day time though - had to work to get a slow enough shutter speed.
