CS2 and TIFF Files - 01-16-2006, 09:36 AM

Okay, so I've run into my first real problem with CS2.
I have a film scanner which outputs TIFF files.
CS2 won't open them. It just comes back with "Unable to open file due to internal program error" (or something similar). Elements 2 will work with them, but in 8 bit mode, not 16 (limitation in Elements 2.)

I've seen a few posts complaining about it in various places, but no actual fix.

Has anyone else had this problem? More importantly, has anyone fixed this problem?!
I think it may be down to inconsistent or erroneous metadata, but I'm not sure how to fix it.

Thanks

TIFF is a somewhat flexible format as there are actually many different ways to save a file and still have it be a TIFF. Does your scanner software give you any options as to how the file is saved, such as the use of compression, etc? You could also try different scanning software; I don't know how happy you are with what you're using now, but Vuescan has a reputation for being one of the best.

It shouldn't be a problem but make sure that if your scanner software lets you set it you have the byte order for Intel or Mac.

I wouldn't think CS2 would have this problem but if the file has a malformed tag it might.

Thanks for the replys.
I need to get this working, otherwise my scanner is just an expensive paperweight!

It might help to know what scanner you're using...
