shooting spraying liquids? - 07-05-2011, 03:34 PM

here's one that I'm going to try over the next couple of weeks, but wanted some possible tips on how I should protect my gear.

I'm working on building a product shot portfolio. One of my shoots is going to be a beer can with beer spraying out of it. obviously it will be easier to shoot both parts separately then merge. The can is easy in the studio, but the angle I want to get of the can spewing out beer will get it all over me and my gear (pointed almost right at me).

my thought is clear plastic for the lighting, then a nice big, clean piece of glass to put the camera behind.

anyone have any experience with this?

Maybe a clean filter on the lens and then taping around that a plastic bag or something and a pancho for you? I'd say also drag the shutter a bit if you want the spray to have trails (1/30th or thereabouts).

hmm, I hadn't considered trails... I was originally thinking crisp... but I'll give that a shot too.

re: bag... that sounds like it will work better.

I don't need a pancho though, I've had beer sprayed on me before :)

how about with a telephoto lens? Get some distance between you and the product. Then, you increase the chances of not covering you and your gear with 'product'.

Actually sounds like a shoot I'm planning as well. The idea you have should be spot on. Please post your results and I'll do the same.
