Question Contact Sheet w/ captions - 01-17-2006, 08:34 AM

Is there any software that will allow you to create a contact sheet and add captions? Not just the file name as a caption either, but add descriptions and more to the sheet?

I've only played with it some but ACDSee seems to give you this feature. You can download a free trial (warning you may get hooked on all of the other things it does) at http://www.acdsystems.com.

Also note if you buy ACDsee 8 Photo Manager, you can upgrade to pro for $40. This will save you $50. The biggest difference I see between regular version and pro is pro thumbnails and opens raw images.

ACDSee is a great utility... It's one of the few programs I bought early on and have upgraded over the years. I still use it for most of my photo viewing and minor correction needs... it's generally easier to deal with than PSCS2's Bridge (which can also handle your contact sheet needs).

Check out this site ... there is a lot of free stuff, and the tutorials are Grrrrrreat ! I've attended some PS classes where Russell Brown was the instructor, a really good and fun instructor. Scroll down to "Caption Magic" it might work for you.

Irfanview is free and, although I have not tried this, it looks like it will work.

You will need to open each picture and attach a comment to the picture file.
1. open the image.
2. Image
3. Information
4. Click the "comment" button
5. fill in a comment and save it.

then display thumbnails of your folder
while the thumbnails are displayed
1. select the thumbnails of the images you want on the contact sheet.
2. File
3. Create Contact Sheet
4. be sure that the "write file infos" is checked
5. $F is the default and will print the file name
6. Press the help button, and you will see what other $ options you can use.
7. $C will print the JPG comment that you put on the file earlier.

Again, I'm pretty sure that this will work, have not tried it. I have printed contact sheets with the file name.

Great program to have for all sorts of things.

good luck.
