Question First Time Portraits - 08-18-2011, 09:24 AM

well, my first paid ones anyways. I know little to nothing about doing portraits. Now, my extremely limited experience also means that I don't really have any lighting equipment other than the built-in flash on my camera (which I never use). I am going to try to purchase a reflector before the session (suggestions?)

It would be outside in a park (not sure what time of day- i think they already had a time in mind) and it's "family portraits" (wife, husband, and their 2 dogs)

Any suggestions about lighting, posing, etc would be extremely helpful!

Thanks!

I don't do portraits, but in the FAQ for new members, there are tons of links to things. The posing guide is a favorite: http://www.rickykphotography.com/fil...ortraiture.pdf.

Good luck!

you can do a lot with natural light and a reflector. You don't need an expensive reflector - a white sheet works if you can get someone to hold it.

Suggestion - place sun behind them to reduce squinty eyes...also sun become a nice light rimming their hair...

Shoot close to sunset

READ - READ - READ - there is tons of info on this web site as well as photocamel.com on portrait shooting.

Good shooting!
