Anyone ever taken their expensive camera on an amusement ride before, like one of those snowball expresses or whatever their called where you go round and round really fast? I'm not talking a roller coaster, wouldn't chance that.
We're going to the OK State Fair this weekend (the BEST state fair in the country...take that you Texans ), and I wanted to try and get a cool blurred shot on a ride.

Some places may not let you take anything of substance (size-wise) on the ride. Only tip i can think of is to use a smaller point n shoot and use the wrist-strap!

You think? I do have a p&s, but the shutter is pretty slow. Don't think I'd get what I'm going after.

I guess it depends, I'm a roller coaster person so I understand your reluctance on those....but on the p-s, maybe a night mode would get a long shutter?

Hmm, never thought about using night mode during the day (when we'll be there). I'll have to try that. Thanks!

One of my most well known shots of an engagement couple was taken while I was riding a swing with them. That was really hard to get, and it got faster and faster. I also shot a couple at the State Fair and no problem bringing camera on the rides. I'll be doing 2 shoots at the State Fair soon.

Here's a bad copy of the image I took at one. I don't have the original image on any of these drives right here. I have a huge canvas of it in my living room. It looks really blue here, but it's more warm tone than this, but you get the idea.

Wow, I think that's fabulous Leslie! I would have blown that up real big also. I can only imagine how hard that must have been to get since you were pointed forward swinging in front of them. Love it! I'm going to be having my daughter and son with their significant others with us so I may MAKE them ride a ride like that just to see if I can capture it!

Great shot Leslie! I can only imagine how many frames you had to take to get the one keeper. And I thought car-to-car shots were hard. :)

Haha, thanks, guys! That was SUCH a hard shot to get since it was daytime, I had to have a slow enough shutter to create the blur, but not so slow that it was overexposed, and yes, I was having to turn backwards in the swing to shoot them lol! I think I got 2 shots that worked, this being the best one. I wish I had a better copy on these drives right now. Can't wait to see what you get, Charrie! Oh, and be careful. It's been awhile since I had been on rides that spun fast. When I got off (old age showing), both my bride and I felt like we were going to puke lol!

I know Six Flags won't even let you wear sunglasses on some of the rides, and cameras are an absolute 'no' on the rides. People do it, but you're not supposed to. You might check with them before hand to see if it's even worth carrying around.

I get sick to my stomach pretty easily and normally don't ride any fair rides. I better make sure I haven't eaten anything before getting on it. We'll see if I get anything worthy of showing here! | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
