creating fake space constellations EASY - 09-26-2011, 12:50 PM

Saw this in another newsletter today. While I have no use for the 3D, the technique for creating the constellations is simple, cheap, and very cool.

Toss flour/dust and sparkling confetti into the air at the same time, and use your flash.

Looks like it would work in outdoor portraits at night.

Sounds interesting... Do you have sample pictures, or links to some?

sorry, I didn't realize the link was missing.

STELLAR : Ignacio Torres

his samples were taken with a cheap 3D camera, which I have no use for.
I was impressed, however, with how much this looks like a real star cloud mass in the night sky. Sorry for the delayed link.

Yeah - that does look a lot like a star cloud. Pretty cool.

I was picturing it behind a bride, or even in a night landscape.

Yeah, definitely behind the subject, not in front of it like the photo in the link, lol (the photo on the right - it totally obscures her. The one on the left almost looks like it hit him or something (which isn't necessarily bad)).

Or maybe coming from the subject's hands or something. It does look interesting though...

I could see it work while thrown from outside the frame, even in a pic with no people.

It works the same if you have a bunch of bugs flying around, too. ;)
