Format to print at a drugstore - 01-26-2006, 11:13 AM

When you sell printable discs to clients, what format do they need to be in? I thought CD...and jpg should get them printed pretty much anywhere. Does it matter if it is CD+ or - R?
I have a client having a problem getting a disc printed - I've taken my own discs to the same place she is at...the only difference I can think of would be CD+ or - R...

It shouldn't make a difference whether it is + or -R. Did you create both disks with the same program?

Yep. The client is trying to get them printed by today for someone going overseas. She has called me from 2 different locations unable to print them and the employees don't know why. I think she is starting to get annoyed with me, understandably, so I am trying to figure out what to tell her. I have no clue why these aren't working. The only thing left to do I think is upload to walmart (don't have a costco close enough for the rush) and pick them up from there.

exactly why when I sell a CD of images I tell them they are on their own....and make them sign a release. however, for customer service it is best to find some way to get them some prints. But I dont like giving print control to a client or "drugstore" .....ever.....

but -R should be the most widely excepted.....

we can read from DVDs at our store ;)

but no raw.

here's what I tell people.

CDR (doesn't matter what kind), preferably not RW but it will work.

JPG in sRGB format. Otherwise if you go an edit them, and our software will convert automatically and it will turn all the pictures a nice pretty blue cast.

holly - sometimes the problem we run into is when the CDs are burned, the sessions may not be finalized or something in the CD burning software doesn't close something properly, rendering the discs unreadable.

Its rare, and we most often get them when they're from discs from europe or somethign like that... tis a pain in the proverbial butt so to speak, but that would be the only problem I would see (primarily happens with CD-RW discs)/

I had that problem at a Walmart. Went back home, re-saved the files to a jpg level 10 (instead of a ful rez. 12) and had no problem. Their machine was timing out on the first CD.

Just a thought.......

There are two well accepted flavors of CD writable media; CD-R and CD-RW. The former being write once and the latter being write many. DVD is a completely different animal with MANY different flavors counting the two newest HD variations. Nightmare!

UPDATE: She was able to get them printed. Still not sure why she couldn't at the first 2 places she went to.
Thanks everybody for your tips. :)
