Online printers who support AdobeRGB ? - 01-26-2006, 05:19 PM

I know most places use sRGB profiles, but I'm wondering if anyone knows of a few
online printers that support direct Adobe RGB profiled printing?

I just spent twenty minutes going through the fine print of some online printers,
either they mention sRGB or nothing at all about color profiles.

Thanks in advance.

Several support much wider gamuts than sRGB. It tends to get more expensive once you go to those kinds of printer hardware though.

www.drycreekphoto.com/ is a good resource
http://www.westcoastimaging.com is an example of one of these classes of printer, as is
http://www.calypsoinc.com/

http://www.hollandphoto.com in Austin also support profiled images and provide great results.

I've printed with both west coast imaging and holland and they were very helpful over the phone, in terms of profile setup and other pre-flight issues.

West Coast imaging is pretty good, and you can get complete info on the preflight requirements for each printing process on their website They have a color-managed workflow you as long as your images have the correct embedded profile you should be fine. They have soft-proofs to download, and I suggest you use them because if your image has out-of-gamut colors you may want to discuss with them exactly what their workflow is.

The one downside about the lab handling the color management is that you don't know exactly what they do - do they just print everything using rel co intent, or do they use perceptual, or what? In the case of images that exceed the printer's capabilities, rendering intent can have a big impact on the quality of results.
