Heres my dilema, when i had my old point and shoot camera, image sizes were something like 1600x1200 and... for example... if you set an image to be your desktop background, it would fit correctly with no stretching.
Well, now that i have the dSLR, the pictures come out a lot wider you know? So now if i set a picture that ive taken with the slr, to my BG, the picture stretches vertically and looks distorted.
Well, i guess i have a question about how to fix that(if theres a way) AND how this will effect printing. I got $20 worth of free prints and im afraid that if i send the pictures ive taken with the dslr in, that the images will look distorted on the prints.
Please help!

You must have video display set to 4:3 thus 1600x1200 was resize and fitted in 1024x768 or 1280x960 screen resolution. To avoid stretching from your new DSLR, crop and resize image to ratio of 4:3 and you be fine.
it doesn't affect print, that works differently. It would be crop depend of the size of print but no stretching

hmmm, okay, i guess that makes sense. ill try to figure that out.
so what youre saying about the printing part is that the image will basically be cut off?
man, sucks because i can take a good picture but either way i have to sacrifice some work into it or sacrifice part of the image itself...

If you're printing to a 4" x 6" print you'll get the whole picture. An 8" x 10" will have to crop. There are 8" x 12" prints that will print the whole picture. What size print are you having made?

no matter what size you sending for print they will automatically crop them if image not fit the print dementions.. so it is good practice to crop pics on your computer for specific print size line 4x6 or 8x10 etc... before sending them to print, this way you will get what u want

i do better curled up at home with the book than fighting traffic with the teachers.

The Houston Camera Club (houstoncameraclub.org) is having their digital meeting tonight at 7, and the subject is all about printing.
Might be worth a stop to see (they love visitors).
