Custom WB and CS2 RAW Converter - 02-10-2006, 02:37 PM

I did a custom white balance on my IR converted D60, used green grass as my WB sample image. As I took pics the image previews in the lcd display looked fine. I was shooting in RAW format and when I brought the RAW files into CS2’s RAW Converter it reverted the images back to an Auto WB instead of my custom setting.

What might I be doing wrong?

Is there an option that I need to disable so that the converter doesn’t auto adjust my images?

Thanks!

Does the "as shot" WB setting in ACR not give you the correct in-camera WB? If it doesn't, I'm not sure what you can do except maybe try using the eye-dropper to WB off the grass in ACR.

i know in the canon brand what you see in the lcd is the jpeg including histogram information is for the jpeg NOT for the raw image. so what you saw could have been the jpeg info for your nikon? i know im a bit off base but itll take someone with more knowledge than me to crack your case. good luck

Try selecting "As Shot" as the WB setting.

On my converted 300D, if I shoot RAW, the the images come out with a strong pink cast to them when on Auto WB. If I select As Shot, it's light pink. If I shoot jpeg, it's the pale blue look.
I have a feeling that the required WB setting is outside the range of ACR (it only goes down to 2000K).

Just tried Digital Photo Professional, Bibble Lite and Capture 1 LE and they all give the blue look.
I don't think ACR can handle the required kelvin values for the Canon IR white balance.

Try this: In ACR. Settings on the right side. Click the properties arrow to the right. Turn off "Use Auto Adjustments". Adjust as needed for a base default for the IR. Save settings with a profile name.

BTW... I don't know what to heck I'm talking about...

I may be wrong, but I'm not sure the cameras WB settings apply to the RAW images. Some of the camera settings apply to jpg's only, if I remember what I have read correctly! You have unlimited WB selections in the converter, which in jpg you have only what you or the camera selects..
