Question about camera and studio setup - 02-13-2006, 04:31 PM

I've generally have been a location photographer and shot mainly flash and off flash photography. I also shoot existing light for sports, events, etc. Now I'm diving into studio work and I know from past experience using hot lights about setup and so on. But the one question I have is about using strobes and reflectors. I also would like to know how auto focusing is properly accomplished with the use of strobes. Is this the only lighting other than the modeling lighting from the strobes. would be best to have another light source that gives you enough ambient light to be able to focus properly. What do you more experienced studio photographers do?

I would be glad to offer some Photoshop ideas in exchange for some studio.

Thanks,

Monte Darland

I use 150 watt modeling lights in my strobes and find that sufficient for auto focus to function properly. The center focus point is the only one I turn on, as it is the most sensitive.

Along those lines, does anybody use the AF assist beam that some cameras have? Does it help if the modeling lights are not bright enough?
