Focusing for Self Portrait - 02-21-2006, 10:24 AM

So i have to do a self portrait assignment for class and I'm having focusing issues. I cant find my manual so I'm wondering if you guys know a tip or trick to focusing without using a remote control. I have a studio set up in my living room with lights and all that and cant get the results I want due to blur.. is there an easier way... of course, i can get someone else to snap the photo but thats TOO easy.. let me know..

Have someone sit where you will, focus on them... then set the timer and sit where they were....

And use a large f-stop.. so you get more wiggle room.

Good luck!

Set you lens on manual focus. Measure distance between film plane and your face. Set the distance on the lens. Take picture. Review picture. Tweak distance on lens. Repeat.

Take the camera with you to the chair you'll be sitting in, focus on the tripod where the camera will be, set the lens to manual focus and re-mount to the tripod. Maybe?

If you do a count down timer does it not auto focus right before taking the photo? As long as I have pretty good lighting it normally focuses with no problem
