Interesting basketball angle - How? - 03-10-2006, 12:57 PM

I borrowed this image from the Star-Telegram web site for the purpose of instruction. How did the photographer get this angle? Do you think it was during the game or was it staged?

OK, makes sense since there are only two players under the net.

Wade's shots are sweet!

But also, many pro basketball arenas have cams set over the net just for shots like these.

the camera is hanging from the rafters and the photographer is firing it remotely.. and chances are it isnt staged

That explains how it is done ;-)

I agree with swanny338 about the method. Lots of sports photography articles relate how Sports Illustrated shooters, among others, get the fantastic shots they do. Give them credit, though. It is a very competitive job to get that one-in-a-billion shot.

If the picture in the newspaper purports to be a game photo, I would assume it was not staged. If it is an editorial shot illustrating an article on NBA labor negotiations, who knows?

I've have seen this shot done in the past a number of times and it wasn't staged. A lot of the best sports photogs have at least one like this in their portfolios.
