How Are the Wildflowers Coming Along?? - 03-23-2006, 12:11 PM

for those of you down in the hill country, how are the wildflowers coming along? any estimate as to when the rest of us should plan our visits? are the early indications hinting at a strong bloom?

I've seen some buttercups show up along 635 in North Dallas, by the way...

Those would be either dogwood or Bradford pear, depending on the shape of the tree.. but I forget which is which.

i'm guessing bradford. seems like every builder in the metroplex puts them in the front yards of the homes they construct. they are pretty, but suseptible to root rot - many die before they hit 15.

I've seen one tiny patch of bluebonnets going westbound on I30 right around the Ferguson Rd. exit, and buttercups here and there, but not near has much as we normally have. Phooey.

If they are in the wild those white blooms in the Hill Country are most likely Sand Plums.

The dogwood's range doesn't extend into the Hill Country and is restricted to East Texas.

Along I-10 between San Antonio and Houston.... lots of color: Bluebonnets, Paintbrush, buttercups, etc.

Further West in the hill-country, wild flowers are just beginning. Saw some Mountain Laurel starting today at Lost Maples State Natural Area.
