First work in LAB land - 03-26-2006, 05:50 PM

Been reading the Canyon Conundrum by Margulis and did my first work in LAB. It was quick and it was strong. Then put the original back in a layer with a black mask and changed the martian back to to a little girl in pink but left the dark landscape.

Take this with a grain of salt, but I have to say, I like the colors of first one better. Turn it down a notch.

LAB editing is pretty powerful stuff but can be easily overdone. When I first started learning LAB editing, the most important step was to learn when not to use it.

I was wanting a dark forboding feel to come out and the original is just to washed out... I'm fiddling with taking to sky to black.

Well if you tweak long enough, you can get whatever color you want. That is the real power of LAB, making the impossible possible.

Yeah, the Canyon book is fascinating. Once you get the feel for the images it works well with LAB is a very cool way to get things sorted out colorwise....
