How good is the JPEG? I've done 30x60 from a 6MP file from a Digital Rebel and was pleased with the results.

I've been wondering the same thing, except about a RAW file from the 20D.

Jesus, how many pixels were in the 30x60 you made, or what was the dpi that you used? I was wondering if 200 dpi is enough for a 16x24. I just made a 12x18 and had to interpolate up a little.

it was shot at 2336x3504 24bit- RGB from a Canon 20d (23981KB)

What DPI should i output this to when printing? This is my first big bridal portrait print!
I know, I should have shot in RAW, but too late now!

I have no clue (actually, I don't remember). I just followed the instructions provided by El-Co and let them do the extrapolation. As someone pointed out once - they have software for that stuff that pretty much does nothing but that (and a few other minor things) that runs into the thousands of dollars. Why would you let a $700 sotware package that does that PLUS a whole bunch more stuff do it for you?

I think I wound up uploading something cropped to like 5" x 10" (so whatever pixels are in that at 275 dpi!) I was pleased with the results and would do it again.

according to Mpix, you need 3000x2000 for a 30x20. 1600x2000 for a 16x20

so if you have 2400x3000 you have enough...dpi doesn't matter...unless you are printing on an inkjet

Thanks Clint. I know what counts is the total pixel count, but I just use the dpi as a guide. As I'm scaling up the size I keep an eye on the dpi just to get an idea of what the pixel density is for my intended print size.

Also remember that if you're printing on a continuous tone device (non-inkjet) you can really sharpen the heck out of a file. Artifacts that appear on screen at 100% will not be visible on the print.

if picture is nice and clean you can get great print 20x30 but if lots of noise, not good quality, even with 300 DPI you won't get good print.. yes to have more dpi is great, but it is not the only major thing for big prints..

and yes, with you 8mb file you should get prety good 20x30 print
