Auto-Show - 03-30-2006, 12:43 PM

Hey everyone,

I am going to be shooting my first ever Auto-show here in Denver, CO this weekend. Only problem is, I don't know what to expect. I don't know how the lighting will be. I am just wondering how the 'pros' do it. I am assuming they use a wide-zoom 2.8; problem is, I don't have one. I am going to take my tripod for the wide-zoom I do have. What kind of flash set-ups/settings do you use, or is flash a nono?

Thanks,
Mike

1- assuming they let you bring your camera and tripod on the floor.
2- expect an awful lot of reflections
3- a polarizor will be your best friend.
4- wide shots are OK, but with all the reflections, people , etc. it will be just a record of the event.
5- close ups of car details really make a good shot.
6- If it is a custom car show, talk to the owners if they are there. They may let you get inside the ropes and get shots not available to others.
7- have fun.

have a few listed under automotive on my site.

I shot the one in Austin and really wish I had taken my tripod in. Try and get there early the first day so there is less people there. With the tripod you can get away with the slower glass. Also, I wouldnt use flash if you can get the tripod in. You will get a ton of glare off those shiney machines. Can be a beat effect in some cases though. My best ones came without flash though.

I was able to get my editor to write a letter. So, I am going to be able to get a full access press pass for the event. I think I'll go in with my 80-200 and 50 1.4 set up, and have the tripod and 18-70 in my bag.

Thanks guys.
