First Test Product Shot with Lensbabies 2.0 - feedback plz! - 04-02-2006, 10:38 PM

So here is my first attempt at doing a commercial type shot like i have seen at bar menus (specially the margaritas ;) I was messing around with my lensbaby tonight. Here are the photos:

(please let me know what you think and what i could do to improve) The first three were done with the lensbabies, then i decided to change to the 50mm1.8 and lastly to the 18-70mm.

I have included a setup shot for those that are interested on how i did it.

1.The first shot had some ice cubes, i immediately new it needed some color and the ice cubes looked more like eggs lol so i removed them.

2. Second shot was a test shot after i added some apple schnapps and a lime

3. Third shot was a lucky shot! I began filled a cup with water, held above the glass and began to make drips while my brother in law took the shot, We did it just once and got it right on the spot!

4. I liked the shot, but the lighting was blown, so i repositioned the lights to underneath. ( i placed the cup on top of my iron board, and the lights in a chair, underneath, facing the wall)

5. Here is my favorite shot (removed the lime). Just added a nice s curve and sharpened in Nikon Capture. at one point i decided to tether the d70 to my laptop just to get a better view of my lighting.

I tell you though, next time i need to get a really clean glass, everything will show. ;)

6. And here is my setup for the shoot, high tech kitchen chairs and a cutting board
(notice the sb-600s on the floor, facing the wall) Yep all i used was my sb-600s the whole time on commander wireless mode.

That's it, hopefully this will be of some use to someone. (All photos shot in Jpeg, Medium quality, Vivid mode)

Please post feedback,
Thanks, Ivan

Awesome shots. #4 looks like the glass is floating to me.

I think you'll be OK, they have a thin candy shell. I'm surprised you didn't know that.

Very cool shots. Thanks for the setup info/pic. #3,4,5 are great. #5 would be better if the glass didn't have the drops.

well not easy, but you just gotta get the feel of it. Play with it for a while and you will learn how to use it pretty quickly.
