How to take screen pics? - 04-05-2006, 11:44 AM

I am trying to shoot a few different LCD panels to do some evaluations. I am having severe Moire issues. The display is 1600 x 1200 at 60Hz. I shot Raw at 1/15 F8 ISO 100. I know I need to find a way to get the white balance correct, and need to spot meter for exposure, but what I really need to do is get rid of the pattern. I attached a small JPG of the image I'm getting and it really doesn't look a whole lot different between the small JPG and a 16 bit TIFF as far as the pattern goes. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Dennis_H

Hmmm...now, I think this is from my memory banks (and we all know brain cells start to die off as soon as you're born and I haven't done much to slow that down), but shouldn't you shoot at the same shutter speed (or slower) as the screen's refresh rate?

So, 60 hz should be shot at 1/60s or slower.

I thought it was 1/2 the hz to make sure you don't catch the scanline...but that was for CRT's not LCD's.

I'm shooting at 1/15th F8 to eliminate any of that. Also using mirror lock up...
