Business Postcard Presentation - 04-07-2006, 01:32 PM

A local veterinarian hospital asked me to put together another postcard for a "mass mailing" they want to do again this spring. Here's what I've put together for my first draft for them to evaluate. Any suggestions for improvement would sincerely be appreciated. Of course they have the final say what they want, but it goes without saying I want to do the best I can for them.

Thanks for your time and advice.
Randy

Lose one of the photos and put the contact and address info in that pane.

Thanks Tom, they actually want me to take another photo of the 'staff' and include it too ... the concept they wanted to show on the face of the card was all of the functions of the hospital ... but I do like your idea, I may send them a revision incorporating your ideas .. Thanks ! Maybe I can convince them to have the 'staff' picture on the back-side in an oval feathered image ... present the idea as "behind the scene support" ...

appreciate your thoughts.

Either lose the oval feather effect on that one pic, or make them all that way. It stands out and looks odd by itself. And if they all go that way, consider losing the square frames and just have them feather into the board BG.

Steelsun,

Thanks, I thought I applied the same shadowmask effect on all of them, I can see after you pointed it out that it is more than the others. I'll play around and see if I like it ... the square frames are actually photo's of some barb-wire I just incorporated into the picture, maybe too much stuff ... wasn't sure about that ... well, it is a work in progress...

Thanks for the tips.

I think the wood background is waayyy too busy. I'd loose that and also make the red text MUCH larger. You might also experiment with some different fonts. The font you have selected italicized and with the serfs is great for large blocks of texts, but in this format just for labeling I'd use something simpler like Arial. You don’t have to stay inside each box with the text either, larger text that breaks the border between the background and each image would help pull the whole thing together.

I also have to agree that the three images is a much more powerful composition and I think the info in the upper right quadrant is the correct move. If you go with a dark background I would significantly lighten the shade of red used for the text to give it more pop.

The only other comment I have is to question whether the text on the far left is necessary. The name of the business is stated elsewhere and vertically text is very hard to read.

Anyway, just some thoughts not even worth 2 cents.

TTU_Guy,

Actually, worth more than 2 cents ... maybe 10 cents ... if it didn't cost so much to mail you the dime I'd gladly do so ...

Just kidding, thanks alot for taking the time to give me the suggestions. I'll work some more on this over the weekend, and repost another edited image with suggestions I've received.

Thanks again everybody !

Randy
