Bridal portraits - 04-09-2006, 10:19 AM

Hey guys I'm looking for any tips yall may have when shooting bridal portraits. I shot a few yesterday at the Botanical Gardens around 6:00pm and the thing is in alot of the pictures i took the highlights look blown the gown appears way to bright. Any tips on the best way to tone them down.

I thought list night maybe I should have used spot metering ....i think my camera was set to average.

Any ideas would be appreciated. I'll post some pictures a little later the good with the bad

Histogram - 04-09-2006, 11:35 AM

If your camera has a histogram make sure to check it when taking photos, if you are getting to much pure white (blown) then adjust some -EV to tone it down a bit. Use can use Center Weighted metering pretty good in this situation but make sure to check the Histogram.

What are you using for processing and did you shoot raw or jpeg. If you have nikon capture and shot raw their is an advanced raw section where you might be able to retrieve some highlights if not overblown. In photoshop you can use the burn tool (looks like a hand with the thumb and first finger forming an o) to darken some blown area. Another way is to make a duplicate layer of the image and go to the layers pallette and select multiply. You can adjust the opacity to your taste.

I like the duplicate layer method mentioned by Miguel.
