Question about Adobe DNG Converter - 04-24-2006, 10:29 PM

While upgrading my ARC to 3.3 found the info on the Adobe site about the DNG converter, has anyone got any info on this or used it.

Is there a benefit using DNG over NEF?

Well, a losslessly compressed DNG will be substantially smaller than an uncompressed NEF, and any metadata (ACR settings, keywords, etc) for the image will actually be within the DNG instead of a separate sidecar file. Those are about the only advantages I can think of right now. I wouldn't go deleting your NEF's though, as some RAW convetors can't open DNG's (Nikon Capture, Bibble, and Raw Magick come to mind); plus who's to say which format will be around the longest and with the best support.
