Thanks Erica, I thought that's what it might take, but I wasn't sure if it would be too much cloning. I am going to do it now on the original.

you could also select the area (feather) put it on a new layer and adjust the color or saturation to match. ive done it to a couple of my pics and it doesnt take more than a minute or two as well.... i prefer this way just in case your cloning skills are a bit off and the hair doesnt look natural.

Which brush should I use when using the cloning stamp? I am finding that when I edit, it lookes so rough on the edges, fake-like.

I like this idea, and I tried it out, but am having trouble. Could you explain the process a little more for me? Thank you.

you can use your wand or pen tool to select the area to be affected. after you select the area go to the menu go to select and feather (put in a #, higher the more pronounced?)... this will lighten the outline of the selected area so it will not be so harsh. you can then put it on a new layer or just work straight on the photo. go to image adjustments and play with the hugh saturation sliders to adjust... maybe even the color. there are smoother ways of doing this but for people learning photoshop this is and easy alternative. good luck

OK, I am following the steps, but it keeps telling me I have no pixels selected. What am I doing wrong? It's probably something so simple, but I am working on very little sleep lately.

ah just dont feather the thing and itll let you do what you want. feathering sometimes can be tricky. use the lightness slider in hue/saturation and youll be fine

Possibly you have the feather set too high for the resolution of the photo and the working on and the area you are working in after zooming. Set your feather to something small like .2 before selecting, then modify your selection AFTER you are finished to get a selection that fades in with the layer below. That modification is in Select-Feather.
