...hmm... loaded question...

I've been using combinations of Adobe Bridge and ACDSee. When I was exclusively shooting with the D70, ACDSee was fine because it would give me thumbnails of the NEF files. Now that I'm shooting with the D200, that's not possible any more. I could upgrade, but haven't made the commitment on that yet.

The other thing that I end up using Bridge for is the ability to add the same "File Info..." EXIF data that I use with Photoshop (I have a template that I reload and modify as needed). Bridge is smart enough to read the NEF, but I find it d-o-g s-l-o-w to use... I hope they improve on that in future releases...

Picassa.....just downloaded it.....first impression......hate it. Perhaps I'll give it a better look sometime. It tried to do too much thinking for me. HD hierarchy is intuitive since the old DOS days, Picasa deviates from this natural, for me, organizational structure.

Editing.....photoshop....what else is there?
Organizing....Thumbsplus has served me well for years.

I found problems with Picasa in keeping track of more than 5,000 image files. It could not build all the thumbnail displays.

I tried Imatch (a very good program) but it was way more than what I want. I still go back to it from time to time. If I was into searching, cataloging, or keeping track of images stored out of my computer, Imatch is the way to go.

I use Adobe Bridge and a date/event heirarchy in Windows Explorer to keep track my photos.

any help?

I shoot race events and tend to shoot the action, then take some people shots, more action pics, then shots at the bbq... the pictures are numbered by the camera and tend to stay in thier groups.

I wanted to randomly place the photos and did the click and drag method in my file in my documents but when I used PS to make my webpage gallery all the pictures were sorted back into thier file numbers....

short of having to renumber all the files (200+) is there another way to do this?

note: as stated above, I use my filing system in my documents to store in organized folders. No proplem with keeping pics sorted by family holidays-date/ race events-date / misc-event-date... the original files are stored using the 20d label IMG_4675 and as I process the keepers I re=label them dropping the IMG and just use the number ie: 4675.jpg
At this time during the proces and renumbering I do not have a clue as to where I would want the picture to be in the gallery so re-numbering them 1-2-3 during the process would not help

any suggestions?

LowSpark,

You could use another tool to make your webpages. I haven't used PS to do what you're doing so there may be a way to do it from within PS. I've only used a tool called SplatsHTML from Isbister.com. I don't really like it but it was cheap and got the job done.

You may want to download a demo and see if it does what you're looking for.

picasa is cool, but a memory hog as others have noted.

I like Fastone Image Viewer. Works differently from Picasa, but seems to suit my needs.

Plus, it's free.
