Help me fix this - 05-10-2006, 11:12 AM

On a recent photo shoot the couple picked out this one as one they liked except for the shadow on her face. Any photoshop gurus here than can tell me what I need to do to get that off or smooth it out?

I think I need to go to the photoshop guru classes.

Feel free to edit the photo and add whatever else you think would improve the image. I'd appreciate it if you could give me some idea of what you did.

I find it interesting what people look for in a photo. They picked this one, I picked another with a similar pose without the shadows and a bigger smile but it's what they see and want that matters.

Thanks.

My try at it...

A couple of masks, about 5 minutes.

On edit: Looks like the upload shifted my color a bit. May have to tweak it a bit...

if it is the same pose with out shadows, can you blend the two to make a decent one. By that I mean use the one you like with the facials of this one? or are they not close enough?

It's not exactly the same pose. In fact I had them move to avoid the hard shadow line. Here's the one I liked.

I appreciate everyones efforts. I should of used my flash or just told them to do the same pose over here. The sun was on and off last Saturday (partly cloudy). I should of been paying more attention.

i had pretty good luck with just the shadow/highlight tool...pretty low-tech but it gave me pretty good results. the problem i encountered mostly was that her nose looks a little bizarre.

I duplicated the layer, with the blending mode set to screen. Added a layer mask, and painted into the shadows using a soft brush, varying in sizes and opacity depending on where I was working. (Like an adjustment layer, this allows you to work without ever losing pixel data on the original - always the best plan.)

FWIW...I can understand why they like this shot better...Besides the fact that the composition is better, he looks tougher and she looks cuter. While the lighting was more even in the other one (photographer's point of view) they both looked kinda dorky in it (couple's point of view). But that's just IMHO. Nice work, they look comfortable with you.
