OKay I have 2 stupid questions....

First of all: I cant open up raw images with my 30D in CS2 ....why?

Second, when I convert my raw to Jpeg the program that came with the camera is resizing them to a 10x6....why?

what am I doing wrong and why am I so stupid, cause Im sure this is all operator error....

Because you need the latest update to Adobe Camera RAW that has support for the Canon 30D. Check the Adobe site for download and install instructions (I believe it's been discusses elsewhere on this forum also.)

Not sure which one it is, I'm assuming Digital Photo Professional or EOSViewer. Check for default settings in those programs - they must have something that saves those settings and reuses them. I don't use either one, so I don't know - but you should be able to figure it out. Usually, default settings are hidden under the File or Edit menus.

For the first question, have you installed Camera Raw 3.4 yet? It's the first version with support for the 30D.

For the second, assuming you mean that's the size in inches, I would assume the Canon software is setting the resolution (in pixels per inch) somewhere. That's really pretty meaningless, but I would assume there is a place you can change it. I've never used the Canon software, so I can't help with where...

I don't claim to be a smartie and I am sure you aren't stupid, but here goes. Adobe has a newish DNG filter that may not have been included in your version of CS2 and possibly support your 30D raw file format. You can read the info at the link below and hopefully get download information from it:

http://www.adobe.com/special/photosh..._31_readme.pdf

With respect to your other question, Canon cameras save their images at 72dpi. Therefore, if the software that came with the camera is attempting to resample the image at 300dpi (as it should), your image will certainly be a smaller size (but much higher resolution) as an end result. Still not sure why Canon insists on the 72dpi format, but it continues to happen.

Perhaps someone else that is more knowledgeable about the DNG file format can jump in here and correct me or explain the situation.

Regards,
Mike
