Printer Suggestions - 05-16-2006, 06:06 PM

Hey i have a big event coming up and i need a onsite printer I have a Kodak 8500 bu it has a pixel blown and leaves a line thru each picture. I was thinking about the kodak 1400 the new version of the 8500 or the epson 2200 any feelings dye sub vs ink jet ?? I like the fixed print cost of the dye sub but im sure the ink jets colors pop a lot better, another concern is how fast do the new inks dry ?? the track can be a dusty place sometimes

oh well im just kicking it around any help would be appreciaited

For your on site work I would think that dye sub would be the way to go. Fixed costs and dry prints and a known consumables replacement schedule would be big "pros" for the Kodak. No need to worry about when the ink will give out....

Also looks like the printer price is pretty decent and the paper kits are about $2.00 per page so you are in about the same ballpark as a good inkjet. I have see reports that a high quality inkjet will run about that same cost per page but it could vary a bit.

You lose a bit of versatility with only being able to print 8x10 sheets (sure you can run multiple images) but for a fixed event cost set-up I think the 1400 may be the way to go... How's that for $0.02 worth?

David, did you ever pick up the 1400? If so, what do you think?

not yet waitin on a check to come in lol from what a buddy tells me he is impressed with it but he went from an Olympus Dye Sub to the 1400 he says it takes about 90 sec for a print and unlike the olympus it will print a TRUE 8 x 10 even 8 x 12 if you use 14" paper its a little slower than my 8500 it does a print in about 70 secs. ill let ya know
