Strange behavior of 20D JPEG's versus RAW - 05-17-2006, 09:21 AM

I've never shot much in camera jpeg with the 20D after the first month and shot all raw. This weekend I had to do a bunch of free stuff for the church (200+ shots) and decided to do RAW+JPEG. Thinking this would minimize my post work.

I was using my 20D, 17-40L, 580EX flash (manual 1/250, f/5.6 ISO400). All the RAW's are exposed fine. 3/4 for more of the in camera JPEG's look to be from 1-2 stop under exposed.

All the available light done with the 5D and 135L were fine in both RAW and JPEG.

What is going on here?

I'm thinking maybe I've got some program feature for in camera processing screwed up. I may have to dig out the manual and go through the setting line-by-line.

when I first saw them I thought I was rushing the flash (I hate flashes) but the raws have nice sharp shadows.
