Need Help With Film Scanning - 05-23-2006, 11:59 AM

I have just recently started scanning some of my old B&W negatives and I'm not sure if I am doing this right or not. I am using a Minolta Dual Scan IV. I scan the negatives, adjust brightness, contrast, etc.... then I use the unsharp mask at 200 like it reccomends. Now, later, I will work with the image in PS Elements for cropping, retouching, etc... Now this is where I am confused- when I get ready to save the image do I need to do another unsharp mask at 200 in PS? I am very new to this kind of stuff so any help would be much apreciated. Thanks, Rick.

My first thought would be to say no to the second unsharp mask. I think this will cause you to make the photo worse not better. I am no PS expert, someone else might be able to give better advice. What you could try is to make the second Unsharp mask on a copy layer and see what happens, if you don't like it just delete the layer before you save.
