Question Fisheye Effect - 05-25-2006, 07:05 PM

Ok... I would love to have a wide angle lens for certain landscape and effect shots but have not purchased one as it has been a lower priority than other portrait glass I have been needing.

Now I am in need of the effectual benefits of a wide angle or rather a fisheye lens. I have to shoot a rap/hip hop group in a tattoo studio and would love to have a mild fisheye effect for a few shots. I have searched the few friends in my area that have Canon lenses to see if I could borrow one, and of course no one has one. So my next possibility is a Photoshop effect that can give me a fisheye.

I would prefer an action or filter that allows for tweaks. I have played with the "sphere" filter built into Photoshop a few times but have never liked the "globe" effect it gives. I dont want it to be so drastic.

Does anyone know of an effect I can use in my PS post production?

Duplicate Layer>Edit>Transform>Warp then in the top left hand corner, there's a dropdown menu where you can choose Buldge, Inflate, or Fisheye.
That's probably as close as you'll get using the software.

I think you'll be OK, they have a thin candy shell. I'm surprised you didn't know that.

Hmmm, don't know. I'm using CS2. I didn't think it was a new feature, but maybe it is? Anyone know?

From about.com:

Photoshop CS2 adds a new transformation type to the Edit > Transform menu called Warp. With the new Warp command you can transform layers into a variety of predefined shapes, or use the custom option to push and pull your image around according to an invisible grid. All this works right in the document window, so you don't need to learn a new dialog box like you do for the Liquefy command. The Warp options are similar to those found in the type tool — arc, arch, bulge, shell, flag, fish, wave, rise, fisheye, inflate, squeeze, and twist.

I can't remember, does CS have the lens correction filter. If so you can over correct for pin cushioning to get a fisheye-like effect.
