Free Video Tutorial (while my bandwidth lasts) - 06-09-2006, 11:38 PM

I've decided to release one of my video tutorials for free to the members of this forum only. It's a test of sorts to see how my bandwidth holds out and to see what changes if any I need to make before announcing it on my site. I will keep it up as long as possible but I suggest getting it quickly just in case I run out of bandwidth.

The video covers Photoshop techniques including adjustment layers, layer masks, and a hefty dose of Lucisart. It's from my "Making Of" series and walks you through the entire process I used to create the image below. Please let me know if you have any comments or questions.

This was awesome. Though as a PS newbie (and I dont even use PS, I use GIMP) this was hard to follow. This is definitely set up for a slightly more advanced user than myself. One recommendation I have though is to include the images you are working on in your Zip file, so people and pause your video and do it along with you. There is nothing like first hand experience. Overall a great video. Is there anyway you can get the sound up? I had to blast my speakers to hear it, and then someone IMed me and I about had a heart attack. Great work.

Thanks for all the feedback. My site appears to be holding up well with all the downloading. Kyle, I didn't include the PSD file in the original download because I wanted to keep the file size as small as possible. However, since everything is working fine, I have added a resized version of the PSD to the Zip file. If you've already downloaded the video you can get the PSD file here. If anyone else has problems with the sound let me know. It worked fine for me.

This looks very good. I am by no means a PS expert but I could follow it. The Radiant Vista offers a podcast similar to this except that filters are rarely used and the file changes are not of this style. I like this and will consider the filters you mention, though a lot of their beauty is due to your visualization and technique. I was surprised to see you go back time and again for those additional effects.

I did get a little lost when you converted it to B&W, but color came back when you changed to a Multiply mode. I may have to play with that.

Awesome, this is exactly what I was thinking. What are your plans for further lessons? Are you going to sell these videos or were you planning on doing it for free possibly with a donations section on your page? Also, if no one else is having sound issues I'll look into my settings to see if I have something turned down. Thanks again for all the help.

A fantastic tutorial!!!! Thanks for showing the workflow and giving us some cool toys to consider buying with Lucisart. I learned a lot and can't wait to try some of this out on my images.

I want to thank you for the tutorial and to mention that your teaching style is as good as your pictures. It did go somewhat rapidly which may be why somebody new to Photoshop (or similar programs) may have probems, but I was able to follow along since I was familiar with all the procedures/layers/tools, etc(though I'm no expert, less than 2 yrs with PS). Although with some effort, those things can be done without the Lucisart or VP plugins, these certainly make the flow much faster.
You may also want to mention that these techniques would be easier to execute with a graphics tablet, which it appears you are using, going by how fast you moved the mouse across the screen. Am I correct in this assumption?
Once again, awesome job, hope you keep offering more.
