Shooting Raw for 1st Time - Need Help! - 06-27-2006, 09:16 PM

I tried shooting a few Raw pictures for the first time recently and immediately ran into problems. This may be a dumb question, but how do I get the Raw photo from my 20D to my computer? I shot some JPEG's and Raw photos and I primarily use Adobe PS Elements 4.0. I then transferred to my computer all JPEG's (like normal) but it didn't even acknowledge the Raw files. I then tried the Canon DPP software that came with the camera and couldn't figure out how to transfer from there either, so I gave up. I understand that once on the computer you have to do a lot of processing, but what in the world am I doing wrong or not understanding? Thanks.

Can you copy the Raw files to your computer?
In DPP click on the photo then file then convert and save. You should be able to save to tiff or jpg.

Edit:
I see now, your problem is copying the files off the card. I do it the way John said with a card reader hooked to a usb port. The I open windows exployer and make a folder to copy from the reader to that folder.

No dumb questions here. That's one thing this forum is for. Helping others out.

You can also use EOS Viewer Utility (if it came with your camera) to transfer the RAW files to the computer. I just take the flash card out of the camera and put it in a card reader I have hooked up to the computer. You can pick up a good card reader for $30 - money well spend IMHO.
